GroundWork designs and implements surveys, research studies, and monitoring & evaluation systems for nutrition and public health programs on an international scale. For a particularly complex logistical challenge, they partnered with Hazgo and Exam Packaging to find a tailored solution.
Challenge
Safely transporting cryotubes under highly demanding conditions:
Transport conditions:
Maintain a temperature of -80°C for over 120 hours, with zero tolerance for any warming.
Origin and destinations:
Shipping from Madagascar to Germany, Jordan, the UK and Switzerland.
Specific constraints:
Passive transport at ambient temperature (no active cooling systems).
Limited availability and handling issues with dry ice.
Risk of administrative delays.
Analysis
To meet this challenge, a tailor-made solution was developed in partnership with Hazgo. The key requirements identified were:
Reliability and simplicity: Provide end-to-end support to guarantee sample integrity.
Local preparation: Deliver pre-conditioned boxes ready to receive samples directly to the laboratory in Madagascar.
Controlled supply chain: Ensure the return of the boxes to Brussels Airport for dry ice reconditioning before final delivery to the four destinations.
